"I want nothing social that you aspire to. If that is what makes you happy, get another husband!"

Something Donald Trump allegedly screamed at Ivana long before this Vanity Fair article was published, which was 1990.

I was reading that because someone on Facebook (my son) had flagged a strange section that reference — of all people — Hitler:

Donald Trump appears to take aspects of his German background seriously. John Walter works for the Trump Organization, and when he visits Donald in his office, Ivana told a friend, he clicks his heels and says, “Heil Hitler,” possibly as a family joke.

Last April, perhaps in a surge of Czech nationalism, Ivana Trump told her lawyer Michael Kennedy that from time to time her husband reads a book of Hitler’s collected speeches, My New Order, which he keeps in a cabinet by his bed. Kennedy now guards a copy of My New Order in a closet at his office, as if it were a grenade. Hitler’s speeches, from his earliest days up through the Phony War of 1939, reveal his extraordinary ability as a master propagandist.

“Did your cousin John give you the Hitler speeches?” I asked Trump.

Trump hesitated. “Who told you that?”

“I don’t remember,” I said.

“Actually, it was my friend Marty Davis from Paramount who gave me a copy of Mein Kampf, and he’s a Jew.” (“I did give him a book about Hitler,” Marty Davis said. “But it was My New Order, Hitler’s speeches, not Mein Kampf. I thought he would find it interesting. I am his friend, but I’m not Jewish.”)

Later, Trump returned to this subject. “If I had these speeches, and I am not saying that I do, I would never read them.”

Is Ivana trying to convince her friends and lawyer that Trump is a crypto-Nazi? Trump is no reader or history buff...
What to make of that? It's a divorce... and yet there's a present-day effort to portray Trump as a fascist. Anyway, elsewhere in the article we learn that Trump's Palm Beach house is across the street from the Bath and Tennis Club, and, when asked about a rumor that Trump hadn't been invited to join, he said:
“Utter bullshit! They kiss my ass in Palm Beach... Those phonies! That club called me and asked me if they could have my consent to use part of my beach to expand the space for their cabanas! I said, ‘Of course!’ Do you think if I wanted to be a member they would have turned me down? I wouldn’t join that club, because they don’t take blacks and Jews.”

Is Trump of German descent or Dutch? Trump sounds like an anglicized version of Tromp, like the Dutch Admiral Maarten Tromp. Tromp looks like it should rhyme with romp, but it's actually more like troomp in the Hollandic dialect.

Well, whoever started this "Trump is Hitler" meme rolling accomplished his goal, thanks in no small measure to Facebook, and to Althouse. Anyone who cares to research My New Order on Amazon is going to be automatically referred to Trump's Time to Get Tough and vice versa.

Women want to show off what a good deal they made for themselves to their friends. The guy may be less interested in that, if it becomes ruling.

Big deal. Trump is a super alert Dutchman. All dutchmen had to survive the wars erupting in The Levant of Europe.

The Dutch were the first tough commercial trade Empire. It was run by realists that had to fight for and against the English and French to survive. They were target #1 for German Armies headed into France and Spanish Armadas headedacross the channel into England.

As the English Navy got stronger and the King just invaded and took whatever he wanted whenever he wanted, be it old Amsterdam or New Amsterdam. Napoleon's Empire took them over too.

WWII in the Pacific was triggered by Japan's doing the same to the Dutch Colonial Territories now called Indonesia. Pearl ,Harbor was a defense move to stop FDR' Fleet from rescuing the Dutch who were the real target.

WWII in Europe was not over until four months after the end Patton and friends suffered the most casualties in European Campaign to stop the German's largest offensive targeted for the Dutch port at Antwerp.

Big deal that he read book of Hitler's power methods. Patton also read Rommel's book to learn the enemy's tacticss. Both men were studying how to fight a fight that they knew would come. And Trump refuses to be stupid like everyone else in the GOP seems to be.

That reads as if Ivana might have taken the Hitler book to use as evidence in the divorce. Her lawyer might have gotten another copy, but then why would he need to guard it like a grenade?

Dems always call Republicans Nazis.
It's so cliche Geico could make one of their "It's what you do" commercials about it.

Trump doesn't seem ideological at all.
Obama is practically straight-jacketed by his his ideology. Trump seems at the opposite extreme, maybe completely lacking an ideology.
What are his never-to-be-compromised values, I wonder? What would be his specific goals as President? What would he trade to cut a deal?

Didn't Ivana claim Trump raped her? I wonder if the liberal media will demand an answer to that.

Is Trump of German descent or Dutch?

Friedrich Trump, Donald's paternal grandfather, was born in Kallstadt, Germany in 1869 and later married Elisabeth Christ, also from Kallstadt. On his mother's side, Donald's ancestors were Scottish.

Venice, Genoa, Amalfi, and Pisa established the first great European trade, thalassocracies. The Dutch did not have a formally established republic they achieved independence from Spain in 1648 at the end of the Eighty Years' War (or Dutch War of Independence, started in 1568).

In World War I the Germans avoided the Netherlands altogether, allowing the Dutch to remain neutral throughout that conflict. Instead, in the opening weeks of the war in August-September 1914 the massive German right wing, comprising three armies numbering several hundred thousand troops smashed through Belgium. In the second World War the German advance into the Netherlands was a diversion to distract Allied forces from the schwerpunkt of the German offensive at Sedan on the Meuse River.

The fight to halt the Wehrmacht's December 1944 Ardennes offensive took place in Belgium. The seizure of Antwerp was nominally the Germans' objective but they never came close to the city.

The ex-wife isn't usually the most reliable source of information about a man, particularly when something shows up in a divorce filing.
