Santorum's South Carolina stock...

... is falling.

He's so yesterday and Saturday Night. A call to repeal Roe v. Wade is unlikely to land one in the White House. At least as President.

Add to that silliness the fact that he is an avowed big government candidate in a time when shrinking the government is the central issue.

Plus, he'll lose the girl in the second reel.

You could have easily used a "no shit" tag on these last two posts.

OK, how often are the touts at Intrade right?

(StrategyPage boasts 89% correct on it's futures board (although how true that is...))

Not that I'm surprised, but it's a fair question.

Joke candidate is jokey, news at 11.

Eventually we're all going to admit that all the non-Romney candidates are jokes, but it's like pulling teeth with you people.

Let's flip the scenario.

There's a Republican in the White House.

Whom among the Democrats is a non-jokey candidate for President?

I eagerly await your answer.

We still remember who's running for re-election.

Next to him, nobody, except Joe, is a joke.

Hillary is not funny.

I see Andy has disappeared, unable to respond to a simple request.

He's as BORING a commentator as they come here.

He is CLUTTER.

I don't think Hillary is a joke, but I can imagine some of you might disagree.

South Carolina loves establishment Republicans. They voted for Bush I, Bush II, Dole, McCain.

Romney is a lock - no one else can beat him in the Blue States and he'll do well enough in the South.

Hello President Mitt.

Obviously.

She was such a success as education czarina in AR, US healthcare czarina, US Senator from NY, and Secretary of State.

And, of course, anointed nominee of the Democrat Party in '08.

I do not think Hillary is a joke. I would have preferred her to the current resident of the White House, and would have believed her more pragmatic about dealings with the opposition.

Granted, her run at State hasn't been wonderful.

Any more?

Andy R, dude, you have GOT to get a new avatar. I'm serious. That hat thing is Simply. Not. Working. I mean, you say silly shit, and then we look at the photo and it becomes OUTRAGEOUSLY SILLY SHIT that just begs for us to bag on you. And why would we want to bag on you? It's bad enough you're like Garage-lite, so our hearts go out to you and your family. I ain't got shit and I practically want to start a Get Andy R. A New Hat Fund but - with no guarantees you'd wear it correctly - it seems like kind of a waste.

So please, for the sake of all, just get a new photo - preferably something hatless, but with you spreading your ass cheeks for the boot that's inevitably coming.

Thanks, man - you can go back to talking about who's a joke now:

I'm listening,...

Who is running? AFAIK, it's just Obama.

I don't wear hats, but thanks for the offer. I'm off to the airport, have fun without me.

South Carolina's culture was formed in the Protestant Reformation's war for survival against the late 1600s Counter reformation lead by Catholic European Kings.

Saint-Torum is never going to be popular there.

I was asking a hypothetical, if the roles were reversed (Republican incumbent, Democratic challengers)

I must have that 17-year-old porn wannabe's thread on the brain because I read the topic title above COMPLETELY differently.

They also voted for Reagan which gives them a perfect record since 1980 of voting for the candidate who goes on to become the Republican nominee.

@edutcher reminded me of this.

When can we start calling Romney the "anointed" candidate? Also, I thought Obama was anointed, but edutcher is saying that Clinton was.

Of course not. Former first lady and carpetbag Senator were ideal qualifications to be POTUS.

Which says a lot since your ilk elected a junior Senator whose previous 'work experience' was community organizer.

Crack, reading your comments is the most fun I have had without a naked woman being present. Keep it up.

As we say in North Carolina, 'the only culture South Carolina has is agriculture'.

Any time you like.

Also, I thought Obama was anointed, but edutcher is saying that Clinton was.

I don't remember anyone saying that about Obama during the '08 primaries. Clinton was (for obvious reasons) seen as the "party establishment" candidate that year.

I think two non-joke Dems made of presidential material are Phil Bredesen, former governor of Tennessee, and Mark Warner, former governor of Virginia, and U.S. Senator from Virginia.

They're both smart, experienced, reasonable guys who also did well in the private sector. Bredesen is almost 70 but Warner is still pretty young.

Since it is difficult for Americans to participate on Intrade (or other "gambling" sites), one has to take this with a grain of salt.

Even that Obama one.

Hillary isn't a joke. She won't run, but she isn't a joke.
Now John Edwards was a joke. And even more of a joke now.
I can't watch "The American President" without seeing Michael Douglas as John Edwards now.

We said the same about Obama --- but you people STILL elected that clown.

I don't think Hillary is a joke, but I can imagine some of you might disagree.

Her only claim to fame is that her husband is big on invading other people's vaginas. She certainly doesn't have competency in her position as something to stand on.

Who is running? AFAIK, it's just Obama.

So, no non-jokey candidates there, either.

Six days ago in South Carolina, Newt was leading Romney by 16 points and Santorum had less than 3% support. Six days. Now, Newt is in third behind Santorum. It is just crazy how Iowa and New Hampshire so affect the later states.

The two guys who seem to hate Romney the most are Perry and Gingrich and not without good reason. Romney destroyed Perry in the debates and Newt with Iowa advertising. If those guys want revenge they should drop out now to give Santorum a fair shot. The longer they stay in, the more they divide conservatives and hand the nomination to Romney. The more early states Romney wins, the more inevitable he becomes.

I'd agree re: Bredesen, but I don't know enough about Warner.

The interest in the Republican race in SC has now risen to 1.5 on a scale of 10. It's not something you hear people talking about, except in the sense of "another debate? Damn I missed that one too." South Carolinians have had little affection for national politicians for a long time. In that sense we were quite advanced in our thinking.

Estragon said...

Santorum's stock will fall even more as South Carolinians are made aware of his long history of being a union toady. After the Boeing-NLRB debacle, that won't earn many votes.

Gene said...

No wonder Santorum's stock is falling. The American economy is in the tank, the inner cities are falling down, blue collar workers can't find jobs because liberal office holders go nuts if an American company actually makes money anymore. And what is Santorum's solution? Bomb Iran!

That's great thinking there Rick, really great.

What's wrong with these guys anyway? They got pushed around on the playground as kids and the only thing they can think of now to get their manhood back is to go bomb another country?
