Incandescent light bulbs.

Stock up!

UPDATE: Shining the harsh light of journalism on Arianna Huffington:
The light bulbs are the first incongruity I spot waiting for Arianna Huffington in the photo-laden living room of her Brentwood home, the one she bought for $4.1-million (U.S.) as an infamous new divorcée in 1997. The bulbs are old-time incandescents, not the compact fluorescents you might expect of someone who ran for governor of California against Arnold Schwarzenegger with the slogan “the hybrid vs. the Hummer.”

Though I wonder, is that ban still being considered or even ready to be voted upon? What a perfect distillation of the cluelessness of Washington.

Have faith in American ingenuity. I predict somebody develop and market an incandescent light bulb that meets the new energy criteria - and the world will beat a path to their door.

Cash flow problems at the Meadehouse?

I expect the bill will be overturned before it goes into effect.

And I'm not really complaining as you provide a quality free product, but I sense you and Glenn both are having cash flow problems.

Althouse thinks she should get paid to do a blog nobody asked her for - she needs another 200 dollar scarf.

Does Ann get a share/commission of every bulb sold?

She gets a tiny credit on purchases she referred. It doesn't add to your cost, it comes out of Amazon's cut (if I understand it correctly). It costs us nothing and allows us to support her in maintaining the blog we all enjoy so much.

She pays for the blog and puts a lot of effort into it daily, and allows us to debate here. I have no problem giving back.

I bought a case (12ea) of 100-200-300 3-way incandescent bulbs for our reading and floor lamps after the last thread on this subject (not on this referral, alas) because I decided we were about to find ourselves without a way to replace our existing 3-way bulbs. We use them in 2 floor lamps in the living room and both bed tables for reading in bed.

You can get them here. (I can't find any on Althouse' Amazon link.)

Shipping was fast and they were well packaged, I had no broken bulbs on arrival. I bought the GE soft white which is what we have been using and prefer. So with 12 in stock now I should be able to hold out for well over a year, maybe 3 years.

We actually prefer the 100-150-250 type but I can't find any.

Kroger has 4-packs for $0.78

Or had. They're "on sale" now at $1.19

Apparently there's a run on them and people are slow to increase capacity to meet the demand.

There's nothing like regulation to screw up the market.

I just purchased 96 bulbs. Thank you Althouse for the nudge! I am happy to support your blog this way. I never miss a day reading you and I appreciate all the time and effort you put into your blogging.

wv: hapaily as in, I hapaily purchased some bulbs!

What kind of idiot would order light bulbs from Amazon when there's a Walmart down the street?

All this hawking of merchandise by law professors is ... unseemly (I can think of other adjectives).

Is this the ravings of a subversive, global warming denying, anti-authoritarian, or a common capitalist, or both?

Ahh, what the hell, I agree with all of it anyway. Carry on.

Oh come on, Ann. Everybody knows that the rules they make don't apply to the liberal elite. the rules are for the "great unwashed" and the "bitter clingers."

Ariana did a consult with Charlie Rangel and Tom Daschle and Maxine Waters and Al Gore and John Edwards and Tom Friedman--they all said she was fine using incandescent bulbs as much as she wants.

GE had developed an incandescent bulb that was significantly more efficient. They canceled the project when the war on incandescent began. Once again, government regulation [egged on by GE to be fair] destroyed innovation. (And for all the talk of saving jobs; the ban on incandescents has destroyed American jobs.)

There seems to be some on this thread who don't know the ban has already been passed. It starts with 100 watt blubs in 2012, and is supposed to ban all incandescent bulbs by 2014. I've been stocking up for years-- since 2009. Pay attention folks.

Free money, I love it. Maybe the government should start including click for money links to Amazon on all the government websites. Pay off the national debt in no time at all and it's all free money -- doesn't cost us anything. It's just brilliant -- increase Amazon's costs with absolutely no affect on Amazon's economics. Brilliant, almost incandescent. It's sort of like insider trading where the inside trader can make money and it doesn't actually cost anybody anything. That's another way to solve the debt crisis, assuming that the Amazon click-through revenue is insufficient (perhaps because the Meadville portion is too large). The government can engage in insider trading, just like George Soros or that Stewart woman. Remember, the 2d law of thermodynamics only applies to the real world, not to economics.

Thinking about insider trading and the manipulation of stock prices, looks like the feds might have a pretty good start with this pump and dump operation with the new GM stock. If you decide to prosper on the new GM bubble, just make sure you're not holding the bag the next time GM goes bankrupt.
