Reading that article, and seeing how Courtney Love put such personal and private messages on Twitter for the whole world to see, I just don't understand how a court or the Cobain family could have believed she was unfit to be a mother.

It's a mystery.

Very sad. I don't enjoy seeing others' pain or disintegration.

Drugs. Only explanation I can come up with. There are these flashes of intelligence from her. Brief and small, but unmistakable. But just a complete lack of self awareness. It's not a spot on the autism spectrum that I'm aware of. (I'm a mathematician - we own the spectrum.) But its kind of like that. She's a very strange person.

And Courtney is WAY too old to be using the phrase "sickest townhouse in the village."

Just embarrassing - and I'll say it, as bad or worse than any twisted Obama-ilk, messed-up, unmarried, directionless, hippie boomer mother - only with money. There is that at least. Looking away now.

Agree with the lack of self-awareness; disagree that that makes her strange. An all too common trait.

Yeah, you can just feel Frances Bean missin' her hot mess of an estranged mama, can'tcha?

The people who have a celebrity's privileges and money often have no reason to exercise moral restraint. We lawyers are used by such folks. We fix what they break, but are seen like pawns in their games. That is a one reason God puts human lives under a time limit of 85-95 years. Wasn't it the Dracula story about a man who never died so he perfected evil over hundreds of years?

Trying to be the girl with the most cake at 46 is terribly pathetic and sad.

The writing certainly lacks poetry. No way she wrote any of the good songs she sang.

Seven, I'm not sure you appreciate the effect of years of cocaine abuse.

Cocaine is a helluva drug. Rick James's writing went down hill as well.

How sad for the daughter.

Just wondering - does she get Kurt Cobaine's money now that she's 18? Is Courtney L. grasping for that?

Anonymous said...

Beth -- I did read that the daughter came into a bunch of money from the Cobain estate when she turned 18. I'm sure Courtney Love got and continues to get a good chunk, too, though.

One of the more touching idiocies of the leftist/artistic class is their belief that Big Daddy can always make things right.

And, he has an obligation to make things right, too. That's what he's there for.

My favorite is the gay activist insistence that President Reagan could have made everything OK during the AIDS epidemic. Since Reagan is the ultimate Big Daddy of the leftist/artistic class, he was presumed to be all-powerful.

So, when the kids messed up (i.e., got infected with AIDS), Reagan was supposed to muster all the forces at his command and fix things for them immediately. And, it was an article of faith that Reagan could do this.

When he didn't immediately fix things and save the kids from the AIDS epidemic, the kids decided that only deliberate malevolence on Reagan's part could explain it.

After all, Reagan was the ultimate all-powerful Big Daddy. The kids should be able to play all they want, without consequences. When somebody gets hurt, it's Big Daddy's responsibility to bail them out.

Instead she married a powerful and superrich (who probably had more money than many hedgefund guys) rocker who had substance abuse problems. It's all about the drugs. Her daughter had the misfortune of being raised by a completely unstable and self indulgent drug addict with no impulse control, who just doesn't get that here own addictions are the cause of her daughters problems, not that she chose love over convenience. Hell, a lot of Nirvana fans think she chose convenience over love in marrying Kurt anyway.

Oh goodness, cocaine ruined so much. Remember the second batch of movies from the original SNL crew? The ones that were only occasionally funny and were completely disjointed? Cocaine.

Remember when Sly Stone made that incredible music and turned out hit after hit only to end up incoherent? Cocaine.

Can I get a Whitney Houston?

Courtney Love happens to frequent the wine and cheese joint that we go to twice a week.

Her psychic advisor also sings cabaret and has a performance every other week or so and Ms. Love has attended a few times. The two times I have met her she has been clean and sober and very composed. Drinking only Pellegrino water. The one word that would describe her demeanor would be: sober.

We have all met troubled people in our life who have had problems with drugs and alcohol. It is far from unusual in this day and age. People struggle and fail. And it is hard for the people who have been hurt by those failures to forgive. Especially when it is played out on the public stage. People will struggle and fail and ask for forgiveness and compassion.

The least we can do is offer some compassion and encouragement if you can find it in your heart to be kind.

Isn't anyone suspicious of a scam here? I thought that Tweets were limited to 140 characters. In the part that Ann has used as her headline alone I count 108 letters, not counting spaces and punctuation.

Also, if you follow the link from the NY Daily News site you don't actually get this alleged post.

Do we care? Or do we just like riffing on celebrity failings so much that we have no concern about its basis in reality?
