FBI Director writes a letter supplementing that letter he wrote 9 days earlier.

He writes:
Since my [letter of October 28th], the FBI investigative team has been working around the clock to process and review a large volume of emails from a device obtained in connection with an unrelated criminal investigation. During that process we reviewed all of the communications that were to or from Hillary Clinton while she was Secretary of State.

Based on our review, we have not changed our conclusions that we expressed in July with respect to Secretary Clinton.

I am very grateful to the professionals at the FBI for doing an extraordinary amount of high-quality work in a short period of time.
What does it mean? It at least means that Comey stands by his recommendation that Hillary Clinton should not be prosecuted over the way she handled classified information. I can't see that it means Comey thinks he did wrong in sending that letter on October 28th or that there are no ongoing investigations involving Clinton. It says nothing — as far as I can tell — about investigations into the Clinton Foundation or the usefulness of the new email in that regard.

Here's how the NYT puts it:
While the new letter was clear as it related to Mrs. Clinton, Mr. Comey’s message was otherwise vague. He did not say that agents had completed their review of the emails, or that they were abandoning the matter in regard to her aides. But federal law enforcement officials said that they considered the review of emails related to Mrs. Clinton’s server complete, and that Mr. Comey’s letter was intended to convey that.
The NYT doesn't mention the Clinton Foundation. CBS News gives us this statement from Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus:
"None of this changes the fact that the FBI continues to investigate the Clinton Foundation for corruption involving her tenure as secretary of state.”

Can there be any doubt that the Republic has been dead since 1/20/2009, when the FBI and DOJ fail to investigate and prevent any investigation of obvious crimes against we the people committed by a POTUS candidate?
Can there be any doubt that the Republic has ceased to exist when the putative POTUS actively encourages those who are not citizens and who are illegally in the US to vote?
The Republic died on 1/20/2009 with the installation of the Usurper Hussein Obama, non natural born son of a foreign father.

If we assume an average of a minute per email for an FBI agent to read, understand, and evaluate the contents of the communication, and assume that they worked solid eight hour days without cessation, in the past nine days, roughly 150 FBI agents could have read, understood, and evaluated all 650,000 emails, assuming they worked through the weekend instead of standing around the water cooler, muttering darkly. But what I am wondering is where is the SINGLE FBI agent of conscience, knocking on the door of a newspaper of record to report this or less sunny news?

While many of the emails were duplicates, the new emails:

1. Included sensitive/classified information/documents
2. On an unsecured device
3. In the possession of an individual without clearance
4. After the FBI had been told no such document existed
5. That included work emails that the FBI had not seen, despite there being even one new on this machine

If perjury, obstructing justice and hiding evidence from the FBI are now legal, so be it. Another thing we learned when this set of emails released is Clinton willfully and knowingly sent classified/sensitive information to her maid to have her print it. Just so you know, her maid does not have a clearance.

This is a farce, and if Clinton can get away with this, a lot of people in jail for mishandling classified information in significantly lesser ways better be getting pardons.

I just wonder what is the point of having any laws in regards to classified information at all. If having your maid be given access to your secured computer and print out classified information isn't enough for to attempt an indictment --- then what is the threshold? "Not being a Clinton" seems like a dubious legal standard.

A GOP Congress' first thing should be to repeal all laws in regards to classified info. If "not knowing better" is now a justifiable defense, then why have them since everybody can claim they didn't know?

If elected, everyone isn't going to suddenly decide to oppose the most powerful person in the world, especially when they wouldn't do it when they had all the evidence they needed to do it BEFORE she was the most powerful person in the world.

This is not terribly surprising. The initial decision not to recommend indictment was based off a reasoning that, legally, does not actually exist and was created specifically to avoid indictment. It is not clear that anyone could ever be indicted under this standard, no matter how blatant the activities. It was evident on how he phrased things that Comey did not believe what he was peddling. There was no reason to believe that the results would be different the second time. I am only slightly surprised that they managed to process through the emails so quickly. Apparently, they can work quickly when properly inspired.

The fact that he re-opened the case at all was shocking in itself and it did a great deal of damage to Clinton's campaign when it seemed the election was over. For Trump supporters, this was more than they could have hoped. This follow-up announcement will probably do the Clinton campaign some good, but I doubt it will be more than marginal at this late date. Hillary's reputation is established as someone who is incredibly corrupt and dishonest. This is now only one of several scandals floating around now, and to bring up the subject just brings up the rest of the mess. Last minute "I am not a crook" ads are not going to help.

Regardless, the FBI's reputation has taken a massive hit. There is really no reason to trust it anymore. We are running out of government institutions that should be respected. This does not bode well. Who is going to play Marius and Sulla this time?

The most I head was "no new classified emails." I guess I'm supposed to conclude that means "no classified emails" but given we're talking about a Clinton and a legal matter I sure as hell am not going to make any kind of assumption.

So Shiloh wants you to vote for a woman who, by her own explanation for all this email stuff, is so incredibly incompetent, that she cannot recognize classified information. She wants to be the top classifier of information in the government--the president -- but she by her own admission does not know what is classified and what is not. The markings on a document mean nothing; after all, the President and Secretary of State positions are supposed to be positions where the person in them puts those markings on the documents.

Clinton's own words tell us she is completely incapable of doing so. And Shiloh says we should vote for her?

The other option, the "Not breathtakingly incompetent where the rawest recruit at Fort Dix could do a better job" is sheer evil, treason, corruption.

Which is it, Shiloh? Do you want us to vote for a traitor or someone too incompetent to tie her shoes? Those are the only options Hillary has given us for her.

I think that the way I would do it if under a time crunch, would be to search for "Hillary", "Clinton", or her email address, and compare what popped out to the emails they already had, eliminating those. And then look at what kicked out of the key word search, but were new. For this investigation, they were really only interested in the stuff that was deleted from Crooked Hillary's email account. Not in pay-for-play, or Carlos Danger pics of Weiner's weiner. Then, anything new had to be checked for classified material. I think that it is plausible that the FBI pulled off a credible job there. Of course, it would have been much easier if the Crooked Hillary people hadn't printed the emails out first before providing them to the courts and Congress. The printing of the emails out probably slowed them a bit, because otherwise they could have run the list kicked out by keywords against the old 30k list using a sorted list of unique email signatures or hashes, which would have been lightning fast (sorted list of the 30k email signatures or hashes would have required maybe 16 comparisons per email tested with a binary search - but might have been even faster if reversed).

Unless the polls are off, this ball game is over. Surprising there wasn't a "last weekend surprise" (the Comey statement doesn't count, as it came from the FBI and not one of the campaigns). Didn't anyone have last minute dumps to make? Disappointed!

And with this Comey stuff--still looking at e-mails, nope, done now, nothing doing--my confidence in the GOP investigating and prosecuting the Clintons is at a low ebb. For all their investigations they never could nail them, either through the criminal prosecutions or in the court of public opinion.

Toss 'em all out and bring in new blood. This gang is useless.

And maybe to see if there were any classified material in the deleted 30k emails - though it probably should have included the question of whether a Records Act violation occurred when her people deleted those 30k emails (which would have been the case if any had been work related, which, of course, they were, but we already knew that).

I expect the GOP to spend years and millions conducing BS hearings and investigations that'll be about as effective as Benghazi, giving the Clintons the chance to say it's all a bunch of nothing, as they keep hiding their crimes in plain sight.

If I ever had to pick my own enemy I'd pick the GOP--they can't help but bungle everything. Disgust!

And also with her Citizen's united case, she wants to gut the freedom to assemble and also petition the government.

Her views on the 2nd amendment are well known, and she has vowed to strike as much as possible from it.

Which is why I suspect that the Arab Spring was more her creation than his - she pushed Huma's Muslim Brotherhood into power (for a short time) in Egypt, deposed the somewhat secular Quidaffi, and took the Sunni side in Syria. Imagine that, her closest aide, if she is elected, having close ties, even to this day (with her mother and bros), with the Muslim Brotherhood, the parent organization for al Quada and ISIS, and still officially considered a terrorist organization by our govt. someone who probably shouldn't have ever had a security clearance in the first place.

Mick wins the pair of brass balls award.

I too think that Trump will win the legal vote but I also think that Hillary will win the alfranken vote. In this election I believe that there has been distributed cheating. In other words in the last elections the cheating occurred in minority precincts - those which went 93% of registered voters for Obama. But in precincts with unpurged voter rolls and voters who move frequently this is not possible. Those are characteristics of minority precincts. So now we get distributed cheating. In Indiana it has been shown in 57 counties that voters whose names resembled legitimate voters were being added to the rolls. And I believe that Chicago Democratic party rotters are fanning out through the MidWest travelling in cars with appropriate state licenses to vote those falsely registered voters in early voting. That is what Scott Fovell meant by "we've been doing this for fifty years and you won't stop us. We use cars now, not buses."

This is like a conspiracy theory - but it could be checked unlike some theories. All we have to do is check the people on the voters lists 2016. The Republican party should pay for people to get the lists for their area - town, precinct, whatever. A group checks for false registrations - 29 people at one address, 29 people with almost the same name, and then how many legitimately are on the rolls as compared to how many voted. About like that. In Wisconsin nobody in power including the election board is checking to see what Fovell meant or did. So the people have to do it. But we could. And if no conspiracy, OK, the election is legitimate - that would be good to know. No matter how we then feel.

tim in vermont said...
