Making Cheney look like the kiss of death.

The ugly truth is that the Connecticut Bush Dynasty is the true Kiss of death. To bad, so sad. And the Bush scions are such nice guys.

JEB's poll numbers are near terminal. And the WAPO word is that Rubio is the new wholly Establishment owned favorite. That is what The Donald messages when he says over and over that Rubio is broke.

I'm glad McCarthy is out. He is not 2nd man from the President material. tradguy, I agree that Rubio is being groomed as Bush's replacement. Kasich is a stalking horse for both.

Sebastian said...

OK, so McC is the wrong guy. But is there a right guy or girl? Smart and articulate and savvy and sufficiently cynical about Dems and MSM and doesn't cry or turn orange in public?

McCarthy self-destructed.

"But is there a right guy or girl?"

Sure, but they will never be elected as Speaker. Qualifications are not part of the qualification process. It's about power and politics. It's about influence and money. That is why the Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee is the power player.

Leadership positions in the House is a lot like being a cat herder. It used to be more difficult for the Democrats because they covered a much broader spectrum of positions. Now, they are bit monolithic in positions: liberal/left/progressive and few left of left. Now it is the Republican party that covers the broader range of the political spectrum.

McCarthy was going to lose. That's why he pulled out. It's nothing more complicated than that.

Ben Carson allegedly left a sponge in someone's brain. Was it McCarthy?

This is how it is going to play out--
Teabaggers are going to get their right winger speaker. Republican senators up for reelection and not from the Deep South are going to be at war with the Republican House. It will be a huge right wing clusterfuck. Democrats will be the majority in both houses with Hillary as president.

Thanks Hillbillies!!!

Well, maybe. But what's sad is that you think your repetitive & always argument-less drivel is good enough for you to present as a face to the public.

What the retard doesn't understand is the corruptocrats already have a majority in both houses and control of the white house. Boehner, Obama, Mcconell, Reid and Pelosi have been working for the very small number of extraordinarily wealthy that feed the DC machine. The Democrat base has been getting absolutely screwed by Obama. They are ready to throw the bums out too. Jeb and hillary are getting money from the same people. There are just more idiots in the democrat party as Hillary still has some support.

This isn't about Republican and Democrat anymore. This is about whether or not we are controlled by the very wealthy. The democrat party is all in the tank for the big banks and corporations just like the GOP establishment. The democrat base is just full of idiots like this guy.

This was another brilliant tactical move by Cheney. The Conservative bloc would prevent McCarthy from winning a majority of Republican votes. But he could still have won with Democrat support, and probably would have, as a Boehner scion.

Along comes Cheney and deliberately makes it impossible for Democrats to support him. Brilliant - and ultimately effective.

Maybe McCarthy just did the math. Enough votes to win in the caucus, not enough to win on the floor. Sort of the same position Boehner is in.

Or maybe he took a good hard look at his caucus and realized he didn't want to lead the gang that can't shoot straight.

The implied connection between Dick Cheney's endorsement and Kevin McCarthy decision proves that Bush Derangement Syndrome is alive and well and living in Madison.

The interesting meta-story here is that apparently the mainstream "pro" journalist set was apparently totally shocked by this:

Journos Lose it on Twitter as McCarthy Drops Speaker Bid

I'm far from being a political junkie, but I've been aware he had problems with his bid from the start. What do these "Journos" do when they aren't kissing Democratic ass?

BN said...

Oooooo, Darth Cheney!!!

So today's theme is junior high, right? What's my prize?

Michael K said...

McCarthy had an argument that he was competent and should be Speaker on that basis. Then he blew up his reputation as competent with that terrible bit about Benghazi and Hillary.

Michael K said...

"Oooooo, Darth Cheney!!!"

One of the things I like most about Cheney (There is a long list) is his disregard of what anyone thinks of him. He is and has been one of the best minds in Washington since the 70s.

He probably thinks it is as funny as I do how the lefties hate him. They just go nuts and I think he enjoys it.

Goju said...

Phantommut, they just sit around telling each other how brilliant and insightful they all are - despite mountains of evidence to the contrary. Repeat a lie often enough and journos are stupid enough to believe it.

The people excited about GOP chaos coming from the Speakership non-election are:

- Leftists
- Democrat Party members
- News channels, including Fox News

So Congress is stalled like a 1973 Ford Mustang II, and even the POTUS can't lift it from lethargy.

Is that a bad thing? Was it wrong to let or make that happen?

No, it's a good thing. Do we really need a Speaker of the House? The last one was awful. I can't remember a good one.

What's the problem? I'm happy as long as this crappy government is stalled, so long as it keeps the military and other vital services running, which it will.

Tonight the Fox News Channel's Special Report with Brett Baier (the best weeknight news program on cable), Steve Hayes of the Weekly Standard floated the name of Hillsdale College's President, Larry Arnn, as the first NON-MEMBER [of the House} SPEAKER IN AMERICAN CONSTITUTIONAL HISTORY.

Fascinating idea.

Hence garages confusion.

Like most middle school mentalities, you forget that you yourself brought it up as a criteria in judging someone.

And as if that is not enough, you decide to take on this latest republican "blacky" (again, your word) Pediatric Neuro-Surgeon in a Cheney thread.

Not to worry, another recess has to be just around the corner for you.

Not that it matters of course. The only real question on the table is "is it enough"?

Drago said...

It's perfectly understandable why garage feels the need to attack this african american neuro-surgeon: Carson saves lives. Young lives. And as we know about the left since the facade has come down, saving young lives simply deprives the left of additional body parts and revenue streams.

Getting What You Wished For

"The plan was to assert their muscle. Punish the impure, take no prisoners and jettison the weak who would not heed their lust for the fight regardless of the cost to the country. They demanded their way and anyone opposing them was a traitor. So it went.
Boehner saw the uselessness of the self destructive desire for personal immolation. He had paid his dues, nurtured his wounds at the hands of his would be friends. He had enough and in an act of redemption said he was quitting and resigning from a house that was madness. There was euphoria at the news of the old man's demise. The madmen celebrated with a glee of arrogant intoxication. Then the successor to be put his foot in his mouth by admitting the true nature of their effort to politicize their search for truth as a cheap disguise to undermine Clinton. Sensing an opportunity the champion of flawed cross examination and self serving hubris said he would challenge the would be heir.

"Even in their intoxicated madness some began to sense the impending trouble. The chaos that this would create and then today the implosion became nuclear with the heir apparent McCarthy stepping down leaving Chaffetz in the line of succession and senses of panic never felt before announced itself to the rank and file Republican leadership.
Sometimes, the snake that is devouring everything with indiscriminate gluttony will turn upon its own tail and in the process contribute to its own self destruction. Sometimes, the Karma of life is to give you exactly what you wished for, in this case, the chaos of your own arrogance and hubris.

"Who says that Karma or God does not have a sense of humor? Ask the House Republicans tonight if "happy times are here again"?. John Boehner does not look so bad now does he?
Pour gas over own body and strike match. This is the state of our democracy, the only difference is that this bunch of political hooligans have turned upon themselves with the same fervor as they have been obstructionists against democrats, moderate republicans and anyone who seemed to give a damn about this country. Good thing they got everything they wished for . . . I can see the collective sense of relief the country just felt in gratitude (NOT!)."

Why are there not 12 appropriations bill ?

Why do we still have one big CR ?

Was not the point of control of Congress returning to standard procedure?

If Obama had to veto 12 bills it would be obvious what was going on.

"This is great news for Republicans."

No retard. It is good for the people of this country and bad for "Republicans."

The people who vote for Republicans have figured out that they need to remove the elements of the party that keep undermining the core goals of the people. Boehner and McConell and the other DC establishment figures have been teaming up with Democrats to pass things that are bad for this country.

Unfortunately for the country the democrat base is full of drooling idiots like you that will support Hillary no matter what. She is a guaranteed shill for the big banks and is going to screw poor people six ways to Sunday just like Obama has. She will continue Obama policies that have enriched only the super wealthy while workforce participation has cratered and real wages have fallen off a cliff. They have purposely poisoned the educational system that now forces poor minorities into shitty schools. And their primary goal now is to import a new electorate full of cheap labor. The only reason to support them is if you really want wealthy people to get wealthier.

Why are there not 12 appropriations bill? Why do we still have one big CR? Was not the point of control of Congress returning to standard procedure? If Obama had to veto 12 bills it would be obvious what was going on.

I’ll answer that:

All Obama has to do is threaten a veto and the GOP “leadership” rolls over and plays dead. By doing this they allow most Democrats and many RINOs to keep their office without revealing their true ideology by voting on bills having to do with important(but controversial) issues. This way they get to go home to their voters and campaign as conservative Republicans or “moderate” Democrats without a voting record in Congress to show the contrary. As a bonus Obama himself avoids vetos and the disgruntlement that the vetos could cause the voters. It’s a nice little shell game that is practiced by both sides.

The gains of the GOP in recent years in both Houses of Congress have been the result not of competent GOP leadership but of Democrats who labeled themselves as “moderate’ or “conservative” to get elected in the early 2000s but who voted with Obama on every issue and were subsequently challenged by real conservatives and moderates and voted out of office. After several years of this steady erosion the “leadership” in both parties decided that this was all a wee bit TOO revealing and decided to keep those pesky bills away from the floor so those imposters would not have to vote on them. They believe a threatened veto by Obama is a good excuse … because … “what good could it do to pass a bill that would be vetoed?”

grackle said...

Also:

Although the Democrats, when they controlled Congress, used the “nuclear option,” a filibuster-proof parliamentary method, to get their bills(including Obamacare) passed – the GOP “leadership” has steadfastly refused to do the same. This, and other assorted perfidies are the reasons for the fall of Boehner and McCarthy.
