Whatever happened to the phrase "popped my cherry"?

Althouse has posted on the John Doe investigations many, many times. And I thought I knew the story but wow, this really brings it home.

In particular I am shocked that people were ordered not to talk about it.

@Saint

I read that today too. I doubt there is anything there AA has not heard or read before.

I think the "talks" in Geneva has been nothing but theater from day one.
The ayatollahs and Obama and his State Dept. all intended for it to end with the sanctions gone, but no "deal" from the beginning.

I was thinking, what are we going to do, now that the two-party system has run its course.

I thought about maybe a Prime Minister, rather than a President.

Thus, the idea formed, that the people would elect the Congress, the Senate, and the President.

Then Congress would elect the Prime Minister.

Thus, the Prime Minister represents the country politically, but has no powers to legislate or create executive orders.

What would the President do? Well, we would no longer need Minority or Majority leaders in the House, and he/she would control what the House fiscal issues were to be, or prioritize any external issues.

The Senate would then become merely a place to appoint Court, and Federal ministers. Ambassadors and such. Nominate officers to become Generals.

Hey, Kruggers is giving Greece advice.

Do you think he is telling them that "debt doesn't matter"?

Agreed. It's a smoke-screen to lift the sanctions without any conditions.

Here's someone with the right background to talk to that issue:

Saw the cherry blossoms here in Washington the weekend before this past weekend. Crowds were terrible, but the weather was uncommonly good for a cherry blossom viewing. Really quite lovely. Didn't manage to get over to Dumbarton Oaks to see their cherry grove, though. I expect their trees have already flowered. The blooming season has already passed, and the trees along the Tidal Basin are already green with leaves.

@Althouse, I read the same article that Saint Croix did. Your state sucks.

Would I not talk just because raiding police tell me not to?

Hell No.

It seems Tammy Baldwin's fired deputy is throwing her under the bus.

Let's hear some more.

Can't wait for the John Doe appeals to be heard too.

"Bound by comprehensive secrecy orders,..."

Only if the victims are into "just following orders", like the thugs who broke into their homes and stole their stuff.

I think they picked their targets pretty well: a bunch of nice ladies who are inherent rule keepers. I'd like to think I'd go to prison to appear on National TV to tell my story and blow the thing open, but....I'd also like to stay married and see my kids everyday.

Hagar said...

I do not know why Obama does what he does, but it all seems to go in the same direction, so I think it must be intentional, and in terms of achieving his objectives, he is a success.

I know a lot of engineers. Most of them are social and very well read. They write just fine. There's only a couple that I'd say probably belong on The Big Bang Theory. Rough estimate: two out of the ten I'm thinking of right now off the top of my head.

and in terms of achieving his objectives, he is a success.

You have to be careful not to draw targets around the arrows. He may very well be a colossal failure at achieving his ends. One could say that he was on a mission to destroy the Democrat Party and use the same reasoning.

Yeah, the story is truly horrifying.

And nobody seems to think "What happens if those nice people who follow the rules decide that doing so is a suckers game?"

...because it pretty much is one. A judge would be wise to punish Chisholm, the prosecutors, and the hack judge who signed off on all of this severely to make sure nobody else tries it --- but they won't.

Rules are for the plebes.

from The Root

Dyson ...was hoping for words of encouragement and positivity from a peer, but what he got was backhanded compliments and criticism.

“Oh, ‘Dyson’s a rhetorical genius,’ West said, ‘but has tilts of self-interest and aggrandizement,’” Dyson recalled. “This is my recommender. This is my reference writer. [West said] Dyson is a genius and he goes on, rhetorical, but sometimes you want him to, say, ‘Put a period on it.’”

When Dyson confronted West, he said the professor told him no one was above criticism. But the hurt was real. They were friends. Dyson said he didn’t do that to West when people asked about the much-maligned spoken word albums he produced.

“When you dropped your albums, I didn’t go the following, ‘This is one of the most lunatic inclinations of a man past his prime to recover a sense of relevance by making fifth-rate spoken word in the effort to look hip,’” Dyson said. “Instead I said, ‘This is the work of an illumined and enlightened elder trying to forge connections with a younger generation.’ I could have said all that and criticized you for the comic venture those albums were, but I didn't do that.”"

So, Dyson is saying he would totes lie to cover for West in the past.

Noted.

Saint Croix said...

Actually, it wasn't just cops giving orders to shut up. The judges were giving orders to shut up. The crime would be contempt of court.

It wasn't rogue cops. It was a rogue judiciary. That's what shocked me. I think these orders are clear violations of our freedom to speak.

I might add that when judges go bad, they are the biggest danger to our republic.

Damn Saint Croix, thank you for sharing that article, but that's infuriating stuff. Are people TRYING to make citizens turn to extra-judicial means of self-defense? I can't help but think of the line at the beginning of Tale of Two Cities about the common people looking at the lamp posts.

Thanks. Everyone is sending me that. I just haven't had time to read it yet. Will probably post soon.

There are better parodies of engineers.
Heck, when I was a kid in engineering school the Jesuit college (which was very self-consciously NOT an engineering school) used to slag us regularly, and if you know anything about Jesuits, you can imagine it was done skillfully.
Our answer was always along the lines of "Call us names all you like. We can still turn your air-conditioning off".

As for the quality of liberal arts education in the US - in general, its horrible. Even in "good" colleges.
No Latin, no Classics, no History (or rather, history is a branch of political indoctrination). All this ignorance is compounded by the ignorant teachers not even understanding that there is something they are leaving out.
In State colleges, or at least our State Colleges, even Dickens is too difficult for the professors, let alone the students.

I wonder why the John Doe laws haven't been rescinded. They are obviously unconstitutional and anti-democratic. (small d)

These Wisconsin Marxist scum deserve some large quantities of very severe punishment.
