Old pictures: "Casual T-ease."

Casual T-ease

This is another one of my scans of photographs I took in 1980/81 of the plastered-over walls in or around SoHo in NYC.

I love these. I think I am on record for saying that before.

I am going to use these as my screen-saver at work, provide that is Ok with the artist.

I am Laslo.

Gravity (Sandra Bullock) is well made, difficult to shoot, but has no plot. It's sort of like the old Mission Impossible episode where they fill 20 minutes with the wounded hero crawling up 20 flights of stairs, emoting difficulty.

Some of the difficulties make no sense, physicswise.

Her Two Weeks Notice and The Proposal are good. More of that, please.

One month ago it was considered permissible to ridicule Bruce Jenner. Today it would be considered transphobic. My how we have 'evolved.'

Please Chillblaine. That is Kriss Jenner now. She disappeared Bruce Jenner.

So little Jordan does all that and we have a CiC who is equating what happened centuries ago with what is happening now. Haven't we become better human beings in the intervening centuries? Most of us have but some are still stuck being barbaric and inhumane -- that is the problem. He is one fucking idiot not to see that.

Let's celebrate those free-thinkers like Jan Hus and Giordano Bruno that the Pope burned at the stake and at the same time wonder why 6 Roman Catholics and 3 Jews are the ultimate arbiters of Women's rights over their own bodies in Amerika.

Gravity has no plot? I beg to differ. The plot is the quest for Ryan to survive and pass on her genes. The theme of evolution is interwoven throughout. The tethers that connect astronauts to their mother ship evokes the umbilicus. The astronauts themselves represent a higher, more evolved human. The constant attempts to communicate in the blind, the separation of the child from its mother. When that happens, the networks formed during pregnancy no longer directly connects mother to fetus; they communicate in the blind. I loved Gravity. Loved it.

Say, speaking of bobby pins, Brian Williams got shot in the eye with a bobby pin, but a group of brave middle school teachers rushed him to the ophthalmologist in the nick of time and saved his sight

Those would be nice if they were blown up to poster size.
Good eye as my wife would say.

I am wondering if part of what bothers me about Obama's prayer meeting speech is the incongruity of his associations. Terrible things have been done in wars since time immemorial, but the wars generally have been about power, wealth, and territory, not about religion.
And when terrible things have been done in the name of religion, it has most often been done to the perceived heretics of the perpetrators' own religion, and in peacetime rather than wars.
I think Obama conflates things that are not like.

He isn't exactly a student of history. I think that's all it is. He vaguely remembers the things that earnest not-very-bright high-school teachers told him about history, and he hasn't studied it since, so a few vague 70s cliches are all that's there when he trawls his knowledge of history looking for examples.

I see part of a poster advertising the Orpheum Theater, downtown on 2nd Ave, just off St. Marks Place, across from Gem Spa).

STOMP is playing there now...and has been for a long time. I remember when the musical LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS was playing there.
