Nice show. One of the few perks of being raised on military bases were the fireworks shows. When we used to have them in England, our English friends looked on in good natured amusement.

Happy Birthday USA, the greatest and the best nation in human history.

I am both proud and grateful to be an American.

And the United States of America government, when it came to treating her citizens of Indian descent fairly, she failed. She put them on reservations. When it came to treating her citizens of Japanese descent fairly, she failed. She put them in internment prison camps. When it came to treating her citizens of African descent fairly, America failed. She put them in chains, the government put them on slave quarters, put them on auction blocks, put them in cotton field, put them in inferior schools, put them in substandard housing, put them in scientific experiments, put them in the lowest paying jobs, put them outside the equal protection of the law, kept them out of their racist bastions of higher education and locked them into positions of hopelessness and helplessness. The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law and then wants us to sing "God Bless America". No, no, no, not God Bless America. God damn America — that's in the Bible — for killing innocent people. God damn America, for treating our citizens as less than human. God damn America, as long as she tries to act like she is God, and she is supreme. The United States government has failed the vast majority of her citizens of African descent.[21][22][23][24]

It's OK. We don't bear grudges. The United States are welcome to join the British Commonwealth. It was all just a terrible misunderstanding. On the upside, HMRC in the UK treats taxpayers fairly, is very courteous and takes taxpayer confidentiality really seriously. And the same is true in Australia and Canada. You get the Queen as a Head of State instead of an elected President. Much cheaper and, I understand, more popular. You can keep the Bill of Rights (copied from our Glorious Revolution). And contentious legislation (abortion, healthcare, immigration, etc) is dealt with by Parliaments, not the courts or by executive order. Think what it would be like to have laws made by Parliament, not 9 Men and Women in black, or by the Head of State.

Thank you for the pix! We stayed home last night, and contrary to the previous year's experience, no fireworks were visible out our bedroom window; apparently Qualcomm Stadium had nothing scheduled this year. So it's nice to see photos of a delightful minor art.

"God Bless America" sung or spoken, is a prayer, not a boast. Some people seem not to know this.

A prayer, like God Save the Queen.

I was there too, but I didn't see you. Of course it WAS pretty dark.

Something was a bit off in the timing for the show. After the burst which should have been the grand finale, the show continued at a quieter level for another couple of minutes. Very anticlimactic.

Here's a tip for shooting fireworks. Put the camera on a tripod and use a shutter speed of several seconds to capture several bursts.
