I hope Romney wins.

BUT, we must accept an alternative scenario:

Obama squeaks through WI, IA, or OH and wins.

What will be the 2nd term look like immediately?

First, NYT will come to Obama superior life.
Second, Obama will claim to have mandate and attempt to use bipartisanship. If anytime GOP challenges, then every-one in the press will go after them.

So, the 2nd term will not only be like the first, but even worse.

I am already feeling the economy. I hope I survive the 2nd term, if Obama wins.

Ann,
A story is going around that General Haim of Africom has been summarily relieved for attempting to intervene in Linya. AQnother two general officers have also ben relieved as a part of the same incident.

Can you you confirm or check this out? Also a Navy Admiral commanding the Stenis battle group was relieved as well.

Curious!

It's Ham, not Haim, and Zero has just nominated his successor.

Here's a link to the story Insta posted.

Supposedly, both a Ranger unit and a Delta troop were both within reach.

Definitely hazardous waste: depleted geranium.

Having run an ornamental greenhouse for over a decade I would go so far as to suggest that it's the variety 'Rozanne' a wonderful, perennial true geranium. The potted "geraniums" are actually the 'pelargonium'.

Do the perennial geraniums do well in the north?

I was filled with impotent rage last night while trying to shop for a lightweight stroller. They're mostly ugly and reminiscent of insects. It is extremely hard to compare models. One manufacturer website had a model comparison feature. "Great," I thought, "I can finally find out what the differences are." There was a nice table with features listed on the left and a separate column for each of the three strollers I was comparing...

and they all had the same checkmarks!

What the heck is that? What is the point of the comparison feature?

Stupid.

Picking a lightweight stroller is an unpleasant task because it is such a small thing, and yet the stakes are high because having a bad stroller is annoying.

I still don't know which one I'm going to buy.

I posted this downstream, but I'll repost it here, since people are talking about it:

Re: the General Carter Ham rumor (and the fact that he was replaced at AFRICOM a week later by General David Rodriguez):

I saw all the preview trailers for the new TV show Last Resort, about a nuclear submarine crew that refuses orders to launch nukes at Pakistan and then has to go rogue when attacked by our own government. I thought that the whole premise was ridiculous, that our own government wouldn't fuck over our people like that. It appears that I was wrong.

Worth a thousand times its weight in gold, (pre-Obama).

Surplus Sovietski stockpile powered half the plants in Europe and Asia for a decade, 20% of US nuke plants.

Suddenly a purple flower stood up and harrumphed:
"I will not stand for being merely decorative any longer.
Just because I'm pretty doesn't mean I haven't got a brain,
Doesn't mean I'll put up with being objectified forever!"
"Keep on like that and your petals will lose their plumpness and your color will fade," murmured the other flowers.
"Anyway, what's so terrible about being the cynosure of all eyes," they continued,
"Could have been much worse, could have been a dung beetle."
"Ooh, a dung beetle" and a shiver ran through the flower bed.

Another interesting development in the Benghazi thing?

The Navy is "investigating 'inappropriate conduct'" of the commander of the Stennis carrier task force stationed in the Middle East.

If all this really is related to Benghazi, it should hit critical mass around the middle of the week.

Aare you talking about an umbrella stroller? My wife spent forever looking for one when the twins were born and finally settled on a Jeep because the consensus (mostly Amazon and Target customer reviews, I think) was that it was the best.

The thing is, I don't think any of them are particularly durable. This one has held up fine although the latches on the bottom that lock everything in are bowed and always look like they're about to bust. But we're three years in and it still works.

Did it freehand, and put the eyes too low, so there was only room for a slit of a smile. Made the whole thing look sinister, unintentionally.

So now I've got a snarky jack o' lantern, which of course I kinda like. Would it scare kids, tho?

In any case, "spork" probably doesn't fall into that category with germanium. Maybe a few phrases like "Flay me, mum!" would. I don't want to think about what I just wrote might mean.

Massachusetts people trying to evaluate the possible effect of the hurricane: it would be all bad - Scott Brown would be out in his truck towing cars, out with his chain saw clearing roads, phoning Washington for disaster aid. Scott Brown getting publicity just before the election when the polls are so tight would be like being hit by a catastrophic hurricane.

I wonder if people in the hurricane zone should vote early?

"the minute I found out what was happening, I gave three very clear directives. Number one, make sure that we are securing our personnel and doing whatever we need to. Number two, we’re going to investigate exactly what happened so that it doesn’t happen again. Number three, find out who did this so we can bring them to justice."

Now see what I want to know is what "minute" was it when Obama "found out what was happening." There were seven hours of 60 minutes - 420 minutes. At different minutes Obama would have found out different things eg. 60 minutes into the crisis he might have found out that the Ambassador was missing; 200 minutes in, he might have found out that the Ambassador was missing and the Annex was calling for help,;400 minutes in or the next morning he might have found out that the Ambassador was dead and so were three others and the someone had refused to help them. So which minute of the crisis was it when Obama found out?

Professor Ann and Meade:

Perhaps, there needs to be a discussion-thread on what will happen if Romney loses. It is possible. So, what will be the initial media reports.

Here are a few:

- Romney-Ryan did not have an aggressive mailing operation. Example: I did not get a single USmail notice about them. I did however get one each week from Obama-Biden for last 4-6 weeks. Why? I never saw anyone in the building getting a GOP mailer. What gives?

- Did the GOP primaries damage Romney, which allowed Obama-Biden to create a caricature of him? IF so, who did the damage? What is Newt or Rick? Will they be brought to accept this blame?

- Will the media be held accountable? Example: Had NYT focused on Benghazi, this race would have been over?

- Will GOP blame to two specific people in the Senate campaign: The IN guy and the MO guy. Both are BACKWARD about women's health. This reduce the women vote.

What are you thoughts? This discussion is needed as it will be on the front page starting the day of the election.

Cheers,
AKB

I am not superstitious. I think talking about it is a little like advice my mom gave me about having an umbrella handy "Better to have it and not need it then to need it and not have it." In my view talking about it means we can vet it out here and it won't come to fruition. Saturday night logic at it's finest.

I have receive a zillion Romney mailers. Probably more then Obama ones. I am not sure why. I live in Madison but I think I answered a survey somewhere along the line and am on a list.

BaltoHvar: I only ask this as at the polling station I was the only one (in the group of 10 to 12) who ended voting for GOP. Every-one had a card (mailer) from the DNC. I am nervous, very nervous. I wish there was a Woodward or Bernstein with a focused writing on Benghazi.

S.: Good point. This week will be worse for the GOP. WIth NYT endorsement of Obama, tomorrow it will take up all the oxygen of media.

Next week, the Air Force One will take over the friendly skies. It is like taking an exam. You really cannot study the last day/night. The smart ones relax. This week is like the last night before the midterm. Is Romney relaxed? Yes.

But, I am still worried as I saw David Axe on CNN with Wolf Blitzer saying that they are ready to begin the 2nd term...

We've been inundated with ads from the Romney campaign and it's gotten worse over the past couple weeks. Way more than Obama. Literally about 10-1 in Romney's favor. We got TWO in today's mail, plus another in a long line of anti-Baldwin ads.

Farmer,

Yes, the umbrella stroller. I have nice, massive outdoor strollers, but I got rid of my original lightweight stroller because I never used it. Now circumstances have changed, and I need to use an umbrella stroller often. I've been using a $10 Target cheapie, and that's been excellent. (Held up better than the original $200 lightweight stroller we had.) However, I don't think it's very comfortable, and we're starting to have to use it a lot, so I need something else. I'll add Jeep to the list of brands to check out.

I didn't get to the Paglia post early, so I'll comment here. The woman makes me want to scream. First, how does someone as intensely aware of Political Correctness as Paglia EVER get the notion DURING THE ELECTION that Obama would be a plus towards racial healing? Even if it weren't for the race-baiting church, Obama never had any history of standing up to the root of racial divisiveness in this country - the McCarthyite race-baiting of the Left. What was she thinking might happen?

Second...her attacks against Obama's statism confuse the living hell out of me. This is a woman who voted for the uber-statist Green Party in the past. Illogical. Illogical. All units relate. All units. Norman, co-ordinate...
