"Russia jails female punk band members."

"The band [Pussy Riot] first gained notoriety performing in Red Square on a cold January afternoon with the song 'Putin wet his pants" performed in dayglo balaclavas and mini dresses."

That it looks like the inside of a Russian Orthodox church muddies the issue of whether they were speaking truth to Putin's repression or just acting in bad taste.

I take it Rush, who turned down one of the sponsors begging to come back (listening, Alpha?) today, isn't allowed to talk about them.

I saw some really bad singing and dancing and very little pussy.

Whats the Russian word for pussy anyway?

They win the best band name of the 21st century. The women are rioting and cannot be shame , so men will may have to arrest them.

I keep hoping this trend will hit the Muslims next. We can call it The Arab Pussy Riot Rites.

Yeah, there was no fraud in putin's election.

@Hoosier

There are two words that could be used.

Киска (kiska) is much gentler than our "pussy". Kiska is slang for pussy or it can also be used to describe a pretty girl.

Пизда (pizda) is much cruder and would be what Maher would call Palin.

Seems like girl protesters have all the guts and imagination nowadays. First rule: make 'em pay attention.

Humorless politicians!

I've heard 'pizda' used by Russian co-workers before, as well.

Had I not heard that, I would have guessed 'Yashin'.

Only you hockey fans out there would understand.

Was it for trademark infringement against their commie brethren in Madison?

I loved this. Clearly this band has more guts than most of the Occupy Rich Countries protesters I've seen. And frankly, the choral part of their song was quite lovely.

I don't know which is worse - this, or Craig Mack Being Mentally Snatched!!!!

I'm voting for Crack Mack because finding the key to the cell door is harder,...

Shostakovich was more subtle in undermining the authorities.

So which one is used in the band's name? Or something else?

Love it! They're not fighting anyone or destroying anything and made a wacky video in the process.

Not suprised if they went to jail for this, but I doubt it will be for long. The title makes it sound like they were jailed for their opinions, or for saying that Putin wet his pants or whatever. More likely it was for trespassing or something.

Reminds of punk in the late 70's on Olde Cape Cod. Bored, small-town kids steppin' out and makin' a scene!

wv: "healign flayinge" victory cry for Pussy Riot fans everywhere, meaning, (roughly) "Putin wets"
