"The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than the Driver of the Screw, and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do."

The title of the new Fiona Apple album.

Weird, I know what all those things are and even how to make/repair a few of them.

And I have no idea what that means.

Cool -- I love Fiona Apple. It's about time she released a new album.

I wondered what happened to her.

And I should have wondered considering that she is my daughter who I had with Alanis Morissette.

(Okay, not really, but someone said that to me once, and I thought it was funny.)

Yeah, I can see it, Freeman.

Or were they referring more to your attitude?

I think she needs to apologize to Ms Fluck.

And Apple Inc. breathes a sigh of relief that iTunes allows up to 255 characters in song titles.

"Whew! That's a close one!"

Freeman Hunt said...

Probably not attitude.

They certainly weren't referring to my singing.

People who can sing seem like possessors of some special magic, don't they?

Me too.
I'm trying to envision a device that would use all of it.

Amphibious sailboat car? Apple as the captain?

Where's Chip...

It reminds me of the great poem I just wrote:

When lofty intake manifolds
Press punched eccentric cams,
We reamed and de-burred ti circlips,
TIG welding them to lambs.

Oh how we grouted lock washers,
Engaged clutch springs apart,
Portico trellis chamfered knurls,
Truck stop machinists art.

Can I have my recording contract now?

TW: etsben flest - which makes at least as much sense as what Fiona wrote.

Hunt
Some sort of complex, steampunk type weed wacker with a steam engine and a boiler or maybe just a big V8

Google- Traction Engines and you'll get an idea.

An old postive diplacement fuel pump with a broken mount.

And from the article, it's doesn't even clock in as her longest album title.

Oh boy what pretentiousness! Good thing she doesn't sell many albums, or people would think pretentious poetry was a good thing.

Another member of the Gurllll Power brigade. No thanks.

Tibore: Her second album had a much longer name:

When the pawn hits the conflicts he thinks like a king
What he knows throws the blows when he goes to the fight
And he'll win the whole thing 'fore he enters the ring
There's no body to batter when your mind is your might
So when you go solo, you hold your own hand
And remember that depth is the greatest of heights
And if you know where you stand, then you know where to land
And if you fall it won't matter, cause you'll know that you're right

So everyone just calls it "When the Pawn", because that's a stupid, stupid album title.

There has to be a more efficient way to be pretentious.

She was quirky back then, she is no different now. It will be a big fuck you to the ratings lists when they have to display that whole album name. I can see it now.

And at #1: The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than the Driver of the Screw, and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do.

At least the album title will fit in a tweet.

I'm gonna nominate Ms. Apple for Andrew Sullivan's Poseur award. Seriously.

I'm so excited for this album to come out June 19! The first single "Every Single Night" is up on her SoundCloud, and it's just as wonderful as everything else we've heard out of her. Really looking forward to hearing the rest!
