The morning after the State of the Union.

I hope you're feeling okay. Hope you didn't smoke too much salmon last night. Here's the video of the whole thing, in case you missed it... or forgot it... or just want to relive every scintillating moment of it...

ADDED, THE EVENING AFTER... I embedded last year's SOTU. So... quite a morning after for me. LOL. Delete.

Man! Getting Nancy back. That's quite an aftereffect!

Thanks to you guys who watched for me.

I went out to a blues club.

Not sure what the drinking game was, but I think I might have won.

When did Nancy get her job back?

Deja vu all over again.

This is the first SOTU of my adult life that I didn't watch. I did watch Ryan's response on youtube.

Why he chose Spuntnik, over a legion of American innovation and invention over the past couple hundred years, I cannot figure out. Why use an example that 1) began the era of mutual assured destruction and 2) was the product of an oppressive, overreaching government that ended up collapsing under the weight of its own oppressive, overreach?

I applaud a 5 year freeze as long as it's not made meaningless by the President's Clintonesque "investment".

Que one of our left-leaning buddies with a quip about "he could have declared (insert something conservatives would love) and you would all still (insert a boilerplate insult normally hefted at conservatives by liberals)" in 3...2...1...

As datechguy said, when MSNBC cannot blast Bachmann's speech and has to discuss the style of Obama's...it was not a great speech by El Jefe.

What was the ominous Chris Matthews pre-SOTU claim that he knew about a huge gun-control announcement? He first stated that it was going to be in the SOTU, then backtracked saying it was coming soon.

Is my math correct?
Four hundred billion is 2.85% of 14 trillion.

I heard a clip on NPR this morning and was glad all over again that I didn't watch.

...or just want to relieve every scintillating moment of it:

My relief was to avoid.

Why he chose Spuntnik......

Lack of knowledge or appreciation of American ingenuity and its depth.

Or an attempt to play up a sense of crisis and then evoke some sort of Kennedyesque... uh....vision.

You're completely forgetting the staggering amount of money we're going to save by buying post-it notes in bulk.

Snark aside, every single scrap of spending reductions counts as long as there no offsetting rise in spending elsewhere.

Lake trout is for smoking, Roger.

Agreed, but freezing spending is not a reduction. And reducing taxes is not spending.

I didn't watch it, instead opting for Cops on TruTV.

I figured I needed to do something productive and besides, the people they arrest are more honest than Barry.

Isn't that the SOTU speech from last year, not this year?

Well, I don't applaud a 5 year freeze of Obamas already astronomical spending.

The remedy is painful across the board cuts.

Freezing in place the damage that the dems have done thus far gets this country nowhere.

I love how he expressed american exceptionalism as if he were a conservative, considering geting liberals to admit to american exceptionalism is like getting a miser to part with all his money.
All that triangulation makes him sound like the biggest liar.

Am i wrong here? A five year freeze on astronomical spending levels that Erkel created.

It's marginally better than no freeze at all on the biggest deficit evah...

The "Sputnik Moment" is the realization that the Chinese may be moving ahead of us as a world power methinks. The Usurper makes an odd use of metaphor, since he is referencing a Space program he has gutted (except for outreach to Muslims).
And what does he care?
He thinks we are an arrogant and "unspecial" nation anyway, and displays no allegiance or attachment to America. That's why the World Government Debt masters installed a Non Natural Born Citizen as the Commander In Chief.

To borrow a phrase from another posting, Obama looked like Jay Cutler on the sidelines waiting for reinforcements....that never came.

It's beginning to look like Paul Ryan has replaced Palin as the "most feared Republican". The libs are cranking up the vitriol machine.

Don't forget, Sputnik was viewed as a Communist triumph.

Yup. He wants to freeze at 2010 levels; some Republicans want a freeze at 2008 levels - which are substantially lower.

PS Very droll, Ann.

Bottom line?

Nothing of substance.

Nothing of substance on:

Entitlements
Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid
State and local deficits and pension liabilities
Tax reform
Immigration
Education reform and cost control
Energy (except some generalities and irrelevancies)
Job training for the unemployed
Housing, home ownership and housing finance

Over an hour's worth of words, and nearly nothing of substance.

Maybe ok as a political speech, but it really was a stunningly bad appraisal of the State of the Union.

Just watched a little, and it did not work for me, because he so obviously did not believe what he was saying.
