Can Obama make us lose weight?

Apparently, he intends to try.

Note: It won't work, but it will waste our time and money.

Only if he shows enough fervor.

The welfare reform bill should now include weigh-ins like Weight Watchers when you pick up yourcheck for staying home and watching TV.

Yea, but only if we start smoking cigarettes, like him.

Just like the rest of his economic policy.

@traditionalguy - what welfare reform? This will become part of the new health care package and will help determine your proration on premiums and/or copays.

The real fun will start when Obama makes us have the Best. Sex. Ever.

Food. To tax or not to tax, is NOT the question. The question is: How do I tax thee, let me count the ways.

Obama's plan should use well-known hefty Dems like Larry Summers and Al Gore and Barney Frank and Ted Kennedy and Madeline Albright as test cases.

If it works, roll out the plan to the rest of us.

I'll be selling fat credits. Which is be similar to carbon credits.

The whole purpose of our government, especially this administration and legislature, is to waste time and money. We pay in the end.

Because no one will be able to afford to buy food.

Soon we all will be issued our very own copy of Libreta de Abastecimiento.

"Products included in the libreta vary according to age and gender. For example, children below 7 years old are provided 1 litre of milk per day, as are the elderly, the ill, and pregnant women.[2] Adults above 65 years are entitled to different allowances, as well. Granting a special diet requires presentation of a medical certificate which confirms the health condition and what product requirements this condition has."

Can't wait......how about you guys?

Yes, growing an organic garden was the first step in changing America's diet.

A tiny band of freedom lovers will surround the last McDonalds in their Idaho mountain fastness, pledging to eat McNuggets or die, as the black helicopters come.

Sure, take away all that money from, say, cancer treatment and use it instead to make kids eat vegetables! Cancer cured. Why didn't I think of that?

The CA legislature is joining him in the fight. (instapundit)

A sure sign that Obama has nothing to fear from the right when fresh fruits and vegetables become a liberal plot.

It's a sure sign that Obama's love of strawmen has spread when his supporters will try and warp the views of others within less than 20 posts.

I heard about the Calif legislature's new law re veggies in school lunches. They have too much time on their hand.

I recommend Congress and the state legislatures should call a moratorium on new laws until everything is back to normal. Congress just spent another $4 Billion or so yesterday to get people to trade in their old cars!
Enough with new laws and new spending!

He might be more convincing if he lost his own man-boobs first.

what's the "us" stuff, ANN? Are you overweight?

I am 50 years old and in the lower half of my normal weight range. My body fat percentage is even bordering on too low "for a woman of my age"

who is the us ?

You people don't understand; we are living longer and healthier than ever. That will drain social security and medicaid, so we need to get people to start dying sooner and quicker for the betterment of the nation.

BTW, look up life expectancy by state and Hawaii and the whitest states have the longest life expectancy from birth (wish they had tables from age 21.) Note that District of Columbia is at the very bottom. Don't expect anyone in government, outside statititions, to be honest about this.

I wonder if, as part of his plan, Obama will make his wife work on reducing her fat ass?

The beginning of a politically incorrect tobacco-smoking-like trend. Label it unhealthy and dangerous by the US Department of Health and Human Services, encourage AG state suits against producers of the product and tax it to death.

----

Create a government list of unhealthy foods such as alcoholic beverages, soft drinks, certain snack foods, sugar and sweeteners and all resultant products.

Subsidize farmers of fresh produce

Penalize farmers, producers, manufacturers, importers, restaurants, wholesale-retail stores on government listed unhealthy foods.

Tax the consumer who dares to buy.

----
BTW has O finally given up the tobacco habit

Except for how alcohol can actually be very good for you in moderation. But the facts won’t stop anyone on this point, god knows.

I like that Obama intends to up the dialogue on this topic. As President, I think he would be remiss in not doing so, given the increased numbers of obese people, and young people with diabetes. That being said, highlighting this as a frequent discussion point is one thing. Backing that up with changes in policy that cost more money is quite another. Worse yet, this President and his legislative fans on both the state and national level have a propensity for legislating behavior through increased fees and taxation. That is infuriating. I am not a child of my government.

Paying for Universal Health Coverage.

Significant money could be raised by increasing taxes on sugared drinks, alcohol, tobacco and other products that are bad for one’s health. But more taxes will probably be needed.

Beni: Mr. Burns, Prince Imhotep thanks you for your hospitality.

Mr. Burns: No.

Beni: And for your eyes, and for your tongue.

Mr. Burns: Wha?

Beni: But I'm afraid more is needed. The prince must finish the job. And consummate the curse which you and your friends have brought down upon yourselves.

I plan to lose or fail to gain 20 new pounds in the next 3 months. I'm fully confident the program will be measured a success under that metric.

i would like to see the facts on how alcohol is good in moderation. i do not think so in my body, but i love to be proven wrong and correct my thinking.

i know if people are wont of calries alcohol provides extra energy. bit lack of food is not my problem.

the blood pressure and artery stuff has already be examined by myself and i do not need any of that kind of science. please go ahead, seriously.

Well I'm no good at dieting but when Obama gives us all free health care I'm signing up right away for liposuction and a tummy tuck and a rack lift.

all good

still i think mario on food network may be doing something wrong and alton brown more things right. still if bobby flay or alton brown are some of the most popular chefs watched and cant help americans or the english through entertainment ...

wel... it is like that sunscreen problem. we sell and slather more of it on our bodies than ever and skin cancer rates do not go down accordingly. never look inward, just blame the sun right? or accept that fat is good and skin cancer must be good too?

i also came into this world at more than 10 pounds from a woman who at the time of her first child was 90 pounds. that's one ninth of her weight. comparatively it would be like me having a sixteen pound baby. Apparently my mom and I were a freak show at the hospital. tiny mother, huge monster baby.

so no one tell me i was lucky to be born thin.

How this fits in politically:
libertarians would be great for america if we all had will power. But from the simple act of keeping ourselves healthy and trim, i think America lost all that long ago.
