It's an uphill slog.

Here in Madison, Wisconsin, as the semester winds to a close:

Bascom Mall

It looks a little grim and foreboding from here:

Science Hall

But it is kind of nicely warm here today. Did you notice the young woman in that first photo with bare legs and flip-flops?

It was warm. Going out for lunch was a rude slap in the face.

I went to school in Duluth, MN and wore my sandals in many winter months. I could get away with it because once you got into one building you could go anywhere on campus via tunnels.

She's obviously from California.

Madisonman, this is OT, but I picked up a copy of "Double Take". My copy is signed by Williams and the other contributing authors- is yours as well?

I didn't realize that the old Dane County Courthouse (now demolished) was designed by the same architect who did Science Hall.

chickenlittle, my version is unsigned. I saw it once at Borders soon after it was published and bought it. It's great to see all the old buildings that had character -- unlike the new things that go up. Compare the old Post Office with the things that have replaced it!

They're all young. So, they can deal with the weather, while also lacking the sense to see that what works in summer is less suited to late fall. Including especially the lass with the bare legs and flipflops.

I miss the scenery of the great outdoors of UIUC, but I can attest to a comfy 24C here at my desk, in Germany, just beginning my first online semester. The comforts of home . . . . Today I studied about conversations, meaning which is literal and meaning which is implied. Well, that's certainly cross-platform, but curious of the cultural differences. Oma claims that Germans are quite chatty - and that once you start a dialogue, be prepared to stay the course, which includes lots of ping pong with questions and answers.

Today's study session is with Beyoncé; now this is a gal who speaks her mind ~ "B-DAY" Beyoncé's music is beautiful literally and figuratively. Ann, you are IRREPLACEABLE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I always thought that was Reynolds' schtick -- campus photos that invariably contained a few hotties.

Remark: Many males and females here in Seattle wear shorts/skirts/flipflops all year round, even when it's 40 and raining. Probably part of it has to do with being young and having a high metabolism. I recall many UW football games in the teens and 20s and me with a t-shirt and a regular coat. Now I go to this other UW's football games and freeze when it's like 50.

Errr, but yes, please continue to post pics of young coeds in various states of undress so that we may. . . ummmm. . . .make. . . .commentary on the. . .uhhhh. . .physiology and current fashionability of todays young people.

Yeah, that's it. . . .

Slap that woman.

Slap Galpal upside the head.

Where are her woolens?

Where's all the Shetland Irish Wool, this time of year? The double, and triple-knits? Knitwear!

Double-triple, and quadruple cable-knit wool socks, scratchy camel's hair coats, bubushkas and fluffy earmuffs.

...Although I guess all that'd get soggy in the rain, huh?

But still....

Slap her---slap the whole lot of 'em.

Ain't got no fashion sense to save their lives!

Peace, Maxine

Don't be silly. Californians reach for the parka once it dips below 60. It is midwesterners who think anything above freezing is beach weather. :)

How about a nice follow-up photo of what the weather's like today?

My son is like that. A born and raised Minnesotan, 18 years old, and seemingly impervious to the cold. On Sunday it was 40 degrees at 9 a.m. as we waited outside at the Amtrak station in Winonan MN, for the 4 hour trip to Milwaukee.

Outside, a brief wind, breath visible, the train 20 minutes away. My son is wearing a jacket that's no more than a long-sleeved shirt ...and sandals. I have on a winter coat, gloves, and earmuffs, boots, and warm socks. I pace because I am cold already. He's still; bored.

He sees me eyeing his youthful warmth and mistakes it for, I don't know, criticism, or a question.
"What?" he asked.
"Nothing", I said.

I grow old... I grow old... I shall wear the bottoms of my trousers rolled.

Ahhh, and then there's today. Winter is here, but too, it's one day closer to spring...

Well, if she's determined to show some flesh, she oughta, at least make it count.

I'm sure she could do herself up a bit better than that. Fishnets and platforms, perhaps.

I heard Playboy wants to do a layout: College Girls of the Midwest.

They're going to be very disappointed once they arrive on Campus and see some of the potential modeling subjects.

Peace, Maxine

I used to ride my bike throughout the winter in Minneapolis wearing nothing more than a windbreaker and polypro long johns. I've sinced moved to Hawaii and this morning I put on socks and long pants because it got down to 72.
